Frycling the New Forest
Last Saturday we frycled… oh yes, we did. In the rain, in the mud, through puddles, on the road…
It rained a lot! Anyway, this was our first frycling trip and so we decided not to spend any nights away. We went in the morning and returned in the evening. The destination was New Forest, Lepe Country Park.
We frycled for ~70Km [note frycling is much harder than just cycling, so that was a good one!] in about 6 hours. However, due to torrential rains we had some forced stops. In total we took ~11 hours.
Our itinerary was: Southampton, Eling, Marchwood, Hythe, Lepe and back. [KML File Soon]
Our survival kit consisted of:
- Tent [for eating protected from the rain];
- 2 Bikes, one of them with 2 panniers of 48 litres total;
- Cookware, including Stove;
- Food for the day;
- Dry clothes [its good to have dry clothes to change during lunch break];
- Water [as much as possible, especially for coffee];
- Obviously, tools for the bikes, spare inner tubes and spare chain;
- Some money… [you never know what you might need on the way]
More frycling to come…

I think I have to add to that, that we lost a lot of time navigating. Definitely skills we have to improve on.
It probably took us about 2 hours just to get out of Southampton because we wanted to avoid the A road… not a good idea…
Pretty funny, also when we accidentally frcycled in a loop near Totton… hmmm, that roundabout seems familiar… damn. Why the hell did I buy a compass? Maybe I should use it sometimes.
